Go Africa – 🇹🇿 Tanzania – Engikaret, Maasai Land
Back to Engikaret
Back to that land of thorn bushes and dryness.
As soon as we arrived, we heard the stories of the missionaries who had faithfully served in this harsh, harsh land of Engikaret for more than a decade.
It was overwhelming to hear about the God who had used them, loved this land, and continued to work here.
I was deeply moved by God’s love for this harsh land,
and by their dedication.
And Burma, where we headed next, was very different from what I had experienced when I was leading the DTS outreach.
People were not already gathered waiting for us.
We walked through different parts of the land with our own feet, going from house to house.
This was exactly what I had been hoping for.
We listened to the message of a nineteen-year-old young man,
and then had a conversation and prayed with a Maasai grandmother who received the Gospel.
The young man who shared the message,
the people gathered inside that small house,
and the Lord who came upon that place.
I was glad we came here.
On the way to the next house,
there was nothing around us but the wind,
and the thorns from the bushes got into our feet.
We stopped Maasai people passing by and asked,
“Would you like a Bible?”
They were so happy to receive one.
One of the Kenyan ministers from Kubamba, who had been watching us closely for some time, became curious about what exactly we were doing. He told us he wanted to know more and wanted to be more involved.
I felt the same way.
Even while doing this work, James and I, and all of us, kept saying,
“This is what we wanted to do.”
Everyone deserves to have God’s Word in their mother tongue.
Everyone should be able to hear God’s Word in their own language.
This is why we came here.
The Bibles we shared as we met the Maasai people.
The joy of sharing these SD-card Bibles that we had been copying one by one in Kenya.
And we began to pray that more people would join this work and that it would spread throughout this land.
A friend from Kenya who was making a documentary told us that he hoped our story would be included in it as well.
How will this journey be captured?
How will our dream,
and God’s dream,
be captured in it?
I began to look forward to it even more than I had expected.
It was certainly a tiring journey,
but watching them live by the strength given to those who wait upon the Lord,
we were strengthened as well.
A day when we forgot our weariness
and were strengthened again.
